Artist Statement

The exploration behind these works is my search for meaning in life. Various emotions and thought processes are represented within these artworks by a dynamic interplay of color and abstract geometric form. As a starting point and means to an end I aim towards the energy of intense colors and optic motion created by their juxtaposition.

The painting process is not the sort of spontaneous burst of creative splash; it is a slower and more mythical creative process. Starting with an idea of an image from intuition, I go through a process of developing and visualizing the idea using digital blueprints. These digital images evolve over a period of time until they are “ripe” and that's when I start putting them on canvas. The entire process from conception to execution is not continuous and may take a few months.

Making sculpture naturally emerged as an extension of my painting. The intuitive ideas that are at the basis of each are less abstract and more apparent than my paintings. Importantly, my sculptural works have an architectonic quality: a conscious and reverential nod to architecture. Unlike my painting process, I do not use blueprints to make sculpture. The idea-to-artwork path is more direct and spontaneous which makes my art making adventurous, surprising and risky
